MERRY CHRISTMAS

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace". Isaiah 9:6

About two thousand years ago, in the town of Nazareth, there lived a young woman named Mary. She was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter. One day an angel appeared before her and told her she had been chosen to have a special baby. The baby would be God's son and she must call him Jesus.

Soon after the angel's visit, Mary and Joseph were married. Mary was due to have her baby when they were told they had to go on a long journey to Bethlehem, which was where Joseph came from. This was because they had to pay a special tax. Mary had to ride on a donkey for a few days over the hills of Gallilee.

At last Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem. It was crowded with other people who needed to pay their taxes. Mary was very tired and needed a place to stay. At each inn, the story was the same. There was no room for them. Eventually, one kind innkeeper said he had a stable where he kept his animals. They were welcome to stay there.

And so it was that a few hours later, Mary gave birth to her son in that stable. She wrapped Jesus in strips of cloth and laid Him in a manger full of hay.

At the same time, on a hillside overlooking Bethlehem, some shepherds were watching over their sheep. A bright light appeared in the sky. They were very afraid. It was an angel sent by God. The angel told them not to be afraid, because he had some good news. He said the Son of God had been born and they would find Him in Bethlehem.

The shepherds wanted to go and see the baby. When they arrived at the stable, they were filled with joy at seeing Jesus lying in the manger. They knelt down and worshipped Him. They told Mary and Joseph how the angel had appeared in the sky and told them that Jesus was to be the Saviour of the world.

Far away in the East, Wise Men saw a new star shining high in the sky. These men studied the stars and they knew this was a very special star. They studied their scrolls where it said that whenever a bright new star appeared it meant that a great ruler had been born.

The Wise Men decided to find this new ruler. They went to Jerusalem to see King Herod, as they thought the baby would be in the palace. They asked to see the child that would be King of the Jews. The king was troubled. He thought this new king may take away his throne. He told them to return when they had found the baby so that he could worship the child himself.

The Wise Men set off to find the baby. They were guided by the star to the stable in Bethlehem. Here they knelt down and worshipped Jesus. They gave him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. That night, the men had the same dream where an angel warned them that King Herod wanted to kill Jesus and told them not to go back to his palace

The Wise Men went back to their own country without calling to see Herod. Soon after Joseph had a dream where an angel told him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt as King Herod had ordered that Jesus be killed. They left Bethlehem right away. When the wise men did not return, Herod ordered that baby boys in Bethlehem be killed. They did not find Jesus as he was safe.

Officers say U.S. soldiers ‘abused’ by al Qaeda inmates

Al Qaeda might be on the run in Afghanistan, but Osama bin Laden's agents are in the driver's seat at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Officers tell of daily attacks by al Qaeda inmates against U.S. military personnel, who are ordered not to respond. The officers have also been ordered to fulfill the religious, cultural and even entertainment needs of the inmates, including providing Arabic translations of Harry Potter.

I bet you won't read or see this in any mainstream media outlet.

Happy Chanukkah

Tonight is the last night of Chanukkah the festival of lights, before you start saying anything let me tell you that Jesus celebrated this festival you can check it out in the book of John 10:22. Here is a little background on this festival.

The Hellenistic armies, led by prominent General Antiochus Epiphanies IV,
sought to eliminate all traces of alien culture (alien to Hellenism) by fierce
methods of assimilation.

They enforced strict anti-Torah policies, particularly, the forbidding of circumcision and public and private Torah reading.
As could be expected, the Judeans resisted, and conflicts with the Hellenists were frequent.

As it came to pass, Antiochus eventually seized complete control of the Temple
itself, and in a public display of triumph and mockery, he decided to sacrifice a
swine upon the altar itself, pouring swine urine on the Temple furniture and holy
things.

He also enforced the strict Hellenization of Palestine by setting up a gymnasium in Yerushalayim, compelling Jews to attend. Eventually the proverbial straw broke the camel's back and a resistance led by the Maccabean family (of the Hasmonean Dynasty) began to fight back.

When the Temple was eventually recaptured by the Judeans, it was in shambles.
Apart from being ritualistically defiled by Antiochus' armies, it was in a horrific state of disuse.

During the three years that he occupied it, the Temple priests were forbidden to perform their proper duties, therefore, it would take quite a bit of work to repair the once beautiful structure.

It was decided that before any reconstruction and repair could commence, the House itself had to be rededicated back to the Lord. This was an act to signify that the Judeans wanted the Holiness of the Holy One to return to his Holy Temple.

They set out to accomplish this task, but when it came time to rekindle the Menorah (the seven-branched lamp-stand that resided in the Temple) they discovered that the olive oil supply had been depleted.

It usually took up to eight days to manufacture enough oil to keep the lamp properly lit.

According to tradition, miraculously they also discovered one container of oil with enough
supply to light just a single lamp (think of it as just one candle of the seven).

The miraculous took place when upon lighting the menorah during the rededication ceremony, instead of it lasting only a few hours, it lasted for the duration of the eight days that it took to produce more oil!

The Judeans interpreted this as a supernatural sign the Holy One, Blessed be He, was well pleased that they had
defeated the Greek Armies for now, and that he was ready to "move back into his home".

So there you have it, another wonderful miracle by our loving God.

Palestinians represent an uncomfortable truth

Lost among the escalating violence in the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories is the fact that the present situation is the direct result of the Palestinian Arabs democratically deciding that they want the worst of the terrorists among them to be their leaders. Israel, America, Europe, everybody pressed the Palestinian Authority to allow true democratic elections. And then the general public overwhelmingly elected Hamas. The argument that the people voted for Hamas based on the group’s humanitarian work and its true distaste for the kind of political corruption that had infected the PLO just doesn’t hold water. There were a number of other parties that ran in last January’s election, and some of them had even greater social agendas and were even less prone to corruption than Hamas. The reason Hamas won the people’s hearts and minds over those other parties is because for more than a decade it had so successfully combined caring for the Palestinian Arabs with mass murdering Israeli Jews. Oh, and a word on Hamas’ humanitarian and charitable activities - yes, the group does some noble work, like running orphanages and giving food and clothes to the needy. But the catch is that they also want to recruit your sons and daughters to blow themselves up among crowds of Zionists. Not exactly the kind of humanitarian group I would want operating in my neighborhood....

I'm Back

I know, I haven't posted in a while but these last couple of months have been brutal. A lot of things have been happening at church and I was also busy with school. Yes I'm back in school, but now my schedule is coming back to normal and I will be posting more regularly.
